Agartala, Aug 6 (NationPress) The government of Tripura took significant actions on Wednesday by issuing a showcause notice to the District Magistrate (DM) in Khowai district while suspending the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Teliamura. This decision comes in light of the unfortunate demise of a truck driver in the Chakmaghat region, as confirmed by officials.
In a Facebook update on Wednesday evening, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced the formation of a three-member committee led by Secretary of Revenue, Relief Rehabilitation and Disaster Management, Brijesh Pandey, to probe the matter surrounding the tragic death of Mihirlal Debnath, a truck driver who tragically passed away on Tuesday in Teliamura.
The Chief Minister stated that a show-cause notice was issued to Khowai District’s DM Rajat Pant, an IAS officer, while the SDM Parimal Majumder was suspended due to their failure to act in a manner that could have potentially saved the driver’s life.
The family of the deceased has been granted financial assistance amounting to Rs 6 lakh (with Rs 4 lakh from the Disaster Management Department and Rs 2 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund).
In a further commitment to justice, Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy and Industry and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma are scheduled to visit the family of the deceased, as stated by Saha. He emphasized, “We are unwavering in our commitment to justice and maintaining public trust in our government.”
The inquiry committee has been tasked with submitting a comprehensive report promptly, and the Chief Minister assured that suitable actions would be taken if any negligence is detected.
Mihirlal Debnath was tragically trapped inside the cabin of the cement-laden lorry after it collided with a tree in Chakmaghat during the early hours of Tuesday. Sadly, despite a rescue operation lasting over seven hours, he succumbed to his injuries.
A viral video surfaced in which an individual alleged that the cutter machines used in the rescue operation were ineffective.
