Nagpur, Dec 12 (NationPress) Maharashtra Minister Dadaji Bhuse informed the state assembly on Friday that numerous initiatives, including the Ring Road, various road enhancements, and the Metro project, are in progress to reduce traffic bottlenecks in Pune and its adjacent regions.
The Eastern section of the Ring Road is expected to be finalized by May 2028, while the Western section is set for completion by May 2026. Additionally, a technical evaluation for the Hadapsar-Loni Kalbhor Metro Corridor will be conducted before moving forward, he stated in response to a motion raised by member Rahul Kul concerning the Pune Ring Road and other projects.
Minister Bhuse emphasized that significant projects such as the Ring Road, other roadway developments by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation and the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSRDC), alongside the Hadapsar-Loni Kalbhor Metro Corridor, are actively being pursued to alleviate traffic issues in Pune's rural areas.
He noted the progress of the Pune Ring Road, indicating that both the eastern and western phases are moving forward.
“The administration is making substantial efforts to expedite essential infrastructure projects, particularly the Pune Ring Road. Progress is robust on nine out of the twelve packages. The remaining three packages await administrative approval, with the tendering process expected to conclude before May 2026. Actual construction is slated to begin in October 2026. On the Ring Road West, all five packages are progressing well. The Western phase is due for completion by May 2027, and the Eastern phase by May 2028,” he added.
According to the minister, MSIDC is quickly enhancing vital roads in the Pune district. The tendering process for the Hadapsar-Yavat Road Project is currently underway, while the cabinet has approved the Pune–Shirur Six-Lane Road and the tender acceptance process is ongoing.
The land acquisition for the Shirur-Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Greenfield Project has been completed, and the tendering process is active for the Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur Elevated Corridor.
Moreover, Minister Bhuse revealed that Mahametro has greenlit the 11.8 km Hadapsar–Loni Kalbhor Metro Corridor, and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is ready.
Instructions have been issued to convene a separate meeting with officials to tackle technical challenges, such as flyover crossings.
A final decision will be reached after conducting a feasibility study. He mentioned that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has instructed all departments to work together and perform regular reviews of project clearances, land acquisition, and work momentum. Steps will also be taken to ensure smooth traffic movement.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar reported to the assembly that a meeting was held concerning the Solapur-Pune road, and the work will proceed.
In the meantime, Minister Uday Samant announced the formation of a committee under the Pune Divisional Commissioner to tackle traffic congestion within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits.
He was addressing a motion on PMC traffic congestion brought up by legislator Bhimrao Tapkir. Minister Samant added that establishing a Traffic Planning Department and appointing a Traffic Planner for the PMC area will be taken into consideration.
The committee formed to deal with this congestion will also include public representatives.
