Bhopal, April 18 (NationPress) Union Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav emphasized on Friday that joint efforts are crucial for safeguarding our forests and environment.
The Union Minister highlighted that neither the government nor any single community can successfully protect our environment and forests alone.
He pointed out that the rampant use of plastic has turned into a perilous trend, which could potentially lead to a catastrophe in the future.
Minister Yadav made these statements during the opening session of a two-day national workshop that addressed significant issues such as forest restoration, climate change, and community-based livelihoods in tribal regions.
"The modern lifestyle has resulted in soaring carbon emissions in both rural and urban settings. We must understand that if we continue to ravage nature, it will retaliate against us. Hence, we must unite in our efforts to preserve the environment," he stated.
He asserted the importance of safeguarding the rights of communities residing in forests or adjacent to nature, but noted that "the time has come for us to adapt as well."
"We must focus on enhancing our capacity for adaptation, which requires collective action from every individual," he added.
During the workshop at the Noronha Administrative Academy in Bhopal, the Union Minister mentioned that the Centre has embraced the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).
CDRI is a global initiative aimed at bolstering disaster-resilient infrastructure, which was launched by India in 2019, with the goal of improving the resilience of infrastructure systems against climate and disaster risks, thereby fostering sustainable development.
Various sessions of the national workshop will include detailed discussions on subjects such as existing legal frameworks for forest conservation, their shortcomings and remedies, the Biodiversity Amendment Act 2023, community forest rights, documentation of traditional knowledge, and forest restoration. The concluding session of the workshop will be addressed by Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel on Saturday.
