Chandigarh, Jan 25 (NationPress) Vijay Sampla, a former Union minister and ex-President of Punjab BJP, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Central government for awarding the Padma Shri to Sant Niranjan Das, a revered figure within the Ravidassia community and leader of Dera Ballan.
Sampla remarked that Sant Niranjan Das has dedicated his life to disseminating the teachings of Sant Guru Ravidas Maharaj both in India and internationally, while also promoting the ideals of social unity, service, and humanity. He stated, “Recognizing him with the Padma Shri is a point of pride not only for the Ravidassia community but for the whole nation,” according to his statement.
He particularly thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this landmark decision, emphasizing, “This honor serves as a powerful acknowledgment of the significant contributions made by saints and esteemed spiritual leaders to society.”
Last month, Sampla, along with Sant Niranjan Das, had an audience with PM Modi at his official residence in New Delhi, where they advocated for renaming Adampur Airport in Jalandhar after Guru Ravidas Maharaj to honor the community's sentiments.
At that meeting, Sampla noted that PM Modi welcomed the delegation with great respect and devotion. He also formally invited the Prime Minister to attend the upcoming 649th Prakash Purab of Guru Ravidas, scheduled for February in Varanasi.
The delegation proposed to celebrate the 650th Prakash Purab in 2027 at a national level for an entire year, promoting the teachings and “bani” of Guru Ravidas across the country. Additionally, they requested 50 acres of land in Varanasi to facilitate grand celebrations and associated religious activities.
The delegation presented the Prime Minister with a beautifully framed portrait of Guru Ravidas Maharaj.
