Ludhiana, June 10 (NationPress) The President of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Sukhbir Singh Badal, stated on Tuesday that all developmental activities in Punjab have been stalled as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has instructed various departments to transfer their unutilized funds to the state treasury.
Describing the mandate to return funds from state departments as unprecedented, Badal addressed the media here and mentioned that 12 government departments, including Agriculture, Technical Education, Revenue, Information Technology, Food and Civil Supplies, Animal Husbandry, Water Resources, Taxation, Public Works, and Mandi Board, have been notified.
Detailing the situation, Badal explained that the AAP government had recently attempted to borrow Rs 47,076 crore under the open market borrowing (OMB) limit. However, the Union government imposed a cut of Rs 16,676 crore due to the state's significant borrowing over the last three years and poor financial management.
He remarked, “The AAP government has overextended itself and lacks the necessary funds to manage these borrowings, leading to the call for funds from 12 departments.”
This effectively indicates that the government intends to utilize funds earmarked for development and various government initiatives to service its debts, he added.
Claiming that the AAP government has financially crippled Punjab, Badal demanded that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann provide an account of where Rs one lakh crore borrowed in the past three years has been allocated.
“The government has nothing to showcase regarding infrastructure development or any new initiatives. It is evident that a considerable portion of these funds has been misappropriated and redirected to the AAP leadership, in addition to hundreds of crores spent on annual advertisements,” he stated.
Badal has called for a comprehensive investigation into this alleged embezzlement and financial mismanagement by an independent agency, alongside the demand for the withdrawal of the fund recall directive.
