Chandigarh, May 8 (NationPress) In the wake of the ongoing anti-drug initiative ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has successfully dismantled an international drug smuggling operation run by the overseas smuggler Jassa. This operation led to the apprehension of his two local accomplices and the recovery of 10 kg of heroin along with Rs 1 lakh in drug money, as stated by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Thursday.
The detained individuals have been identified as Gurpinder Singh and Sajan, both from Amritsar.
Additionally, police forces confiscated their motorcycle which was utilized for transporting the illicit substances.
DGP Yadav disclosed that the smuggler Jassa, who deals in drugs and firearms from abroad, is wanted in numerous cases filed under the NDPS Act and Arms Act in Amritsar.
Notably, this marks the third operation orchestrated by Jassa that has been dismantled by CI Amritsar in just over a week.
Previously, an associate of Jassa named Abhishek was taken into custody with seven firearms and Rs 1.5 lakh, and shortly thereafter, police recovered 5 kg of heroin from the hideout of Jassa’s absconding accomplice, identified as Jodhbir Singh, also known as Jodha.
Elaborating on the current operation, DGP Yadav mentioned that acting on credible intelligence regarding Gurpinder and Sajan's plan to deliver a substantial heroin consignment to another party, police teams conducted an intelligence-driven operation in the vicinity and successfully apprehended both suspects while they were on their motorcycle.
Upon searching them, police recovered 10 kg of heroin and Rs 1 lakh in drug money. Initial investigations suggest that the two individuals were poised to deliver the drug shipment under Jassa's directives. Further investigations are ongoing to trace both the supply and distribution networks involved in this case, with the potential for more arrests and seizures in the days to follow.
