Chandigarh, Oct 13 (NationPress) In a significant intelligence-driven operation, aimed at ensuring a secure and peaceful festive season, the Punjab Police's State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), successfully recovered a stash of three firearms, including two AK-47 rifles, near the Indo-Pak border in the Khemkaran area of Tarn Taran, as reported by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, on Monday.
Alongside the AK-47 rifles, the recovered haul also contained a PX5 Storm pistol, a magazine, and two magazines of AK-47 ammunition.
DGP Yadav indicated that initial investigations suggest that these weapons originated from Pakistan.
Ongoing investigations aim to identify the smugglers and establish both forward and backward linkages to dismantle the entire smuggling operation, he added.
Detailing the operation, Assistant Inspector General (Amritsar) Sukhminder Singh Mann stated that the BSF had received credible intelligence regarding the arrival of a militant hardware consignment from across the border near Mehdipur village, located in the BSF's Khemkaran Sector.
In response, a coordinated combing operation was promptly launched by the police and BSF in the Mehdipur area, leading to the recovery of the weapon consignment.
The origins of the seized hardware are currently being verified, with further investigations ongoing to apprehend those responsible for this offense.
A First Information Report (FIR) was registered on October 13 under various sections of the Arms Act, along with sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Passport Act at the SSOC Police Station in Amritsar.
