New Delhi, Sep 19 (NationPress) Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, accompanied by distinguished members of the Sikh community, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday to advocate for the appropriate placement of the ‘Jore Sahib’, the sacred relics belonging to the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, and his wife, Mata Sahib Kaur. They emphasized the need for a location where a large number of devotees could pay their respects.
The Union Minister presented the committee's recommendations concerning the preservation and dignified display of the holy ‘Jore Sahib’.
In a message on X, Puri expressed that his family has been “incredibly blessed and privileged to perform seva of these holy relics since they were entrusted to our ancestors by Guru Sahib and Mata Ji over 300 years ago.”
The ‘Jore Sahib’ consists of footwear from Guru Gobind Singh (right foot 11” by 3½”) and his esteemed wife Mata Sahib Kaur (left foot 9” by 3”).
Puri elaborated that his ancestor was granted the “profound divine blessing to serve Dasam Pita directly.”
According to legend, after being pleased with his ‘seva’, Guru Maharaj instructed him to request a reward. “Our ancestor humbly asked for permission from Guru Sahib to keep the sacred ‘Jore Sahib’ so that the divine blessings of Guru Sahib and Mata Ji would continue through his family and future generations,” wrote Union Minister Puri.
He noted that the last custodian of the ‘Jore Sahib’ was his late cousin, Sardar Jasmeet Singh Puri, who resided in Delhi’s Karol Bagh, on a street later named ‘Guru Gobind Singh Marg’ in honor of the sacred relics.
“Now that I am one of the eldest members of the family, his wife Manpreet contacted me to find a suitable place for these holy relics, enabling more devotees to pay homage to the revered ‘Jore Sahib’,” Puri said.
“With deep respect, I had the holy relics meticulously examined by the Ministry of Culture, and carbon testing was conducted to verify their authenticity and spiritual significance. The committee members have compiled their recommendations and submitted a report to PM Modi Ji, who has consistently shown respect for the teachings of our Guru Sahibs and compassion towards the Sikh community,” he mentioned.
“PM Modi Ji’s unparalleled love for our community is evident through various compassionate and insightful decisions made under his visionary leadership over the past eleven years. He has taken a personal interest in improving numerous Sikh religious sites and enhancing accessibility to these pilgrimage destinations,” the Union Minister added.
