Indore, July 10 (NationPress) In light of the growing controversy surrounding alleged defective designs of bridges, including RoBs (Railway over Bridges) and road potholes, the Public Works Department (PWD) of Madhya Pradesh has initiated an extensive state-wide inspection, as reported by officials.
The department has requested comprehensive reports from all district PWD offices regarding the current status and design specifications of both existing and proposed bridges.
A dedicated committee of senior officials has been established to evaluate all bridges currently under construction, according to a source familiar with the situation, as conveyed to IANS.
This action follows consistent criticism from commuters and political figures, including members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), regarding the structural integrity of various bridges.
Another RoB in Indore has been scrutinized, prompting BJP MP Shankar Lalwani to write to the state's PWD Minister, Rakesh Singh, urging modifications to a sharp curve proposed in the bridge's design.
In response, Minister Singh stated on Wednesday that the construction of the RoB in the Polo ground area of Indore is proceeding according to the properly sanctioned technical design and standards.
During a media briefing, the Minister emphasized that the design was finalized through a collaborative survey and design process involving both the Railways and the PWD.
"The design aims to facilitate traffic flow in three directions, incorporating three arms leading to Polo ground, Laxmibai Station, and Bhagirathpura," Minister Singh elaborated.
This development follows scrutiny of an under-construction RoB in the Aishbagh area of Bhopal a few weeks ago.
After the RoB faced significant backlash on social media and among residents, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav suspended seven engineers connected with the project.
Additionally, the design of another RoB in the Shubash Nagar area of Bhopal faced criticism for its zigzag structure and improperly positioned dividers, following two accidents within eight hours during heavy rainfall earlier this month.
