Jammu, July 30 (NationPress) A terrorist overground worker (OGW) was apprehended in J&K's Jammu district while traveling to Srinagar in a private vehicle, according to police reports on Wednesday.

The individual, identified as Azan Hameed Gazi, the son of Abdul Hameed Gazi from the Qamarwari locality in Srinagar, was taken into custody after police discovered arms and ammunition during a routine check in the Nagrota area late Tuesday night.

“Acting on specific intelligence, a team from the Nagrota police station established a special ‘Naka’ (checkpost) at TCP Bypass, Nagrota around 9:20 p.m. yesterday. While conducting checks, a vehicle traveling from Jammu to Srinagar was stopped. During the search, police found three pistols, three empty magazines, eight live cartridges, and two empty cartridges in the driver’s possession,” a police official stated.

The driver was arrested, and an FIR was filed under applicable sections of the Arms Act at the Nagrota Police Station, with ongoing investigations, the official added.

Security forces have ramped up operations against terrorists, OGWs, and their sympathizers across the region, while the army continues to maintain a constant 24X7 vigilance along the line of control (LoC) to prevent infiltration attempts from across the border into J&K.

Earlier today, under 'Operation Shivshakti', the army eliminated two LeT terrorists on the LoC in Poonch district, successfully thwarting an infiltration attempt.

On Monday, as part of Operation Mahadev, three hardcore LeT terrorists, responsible for the killing of 26 civilians in Pahalgam on April 22, were neutralized by joint security forces. The terrorists were identified as Suleman Shah, Abu Hamza, and Jibran Bhai, and were killed at the base of Mahadev mountain in the Dachigam National Park area of Srinagar.

This significant success coincided with the commencement of a parliamentary debate regarding the Pahalgam massacre and 'Operation Sindoor'.
