Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jammu, Feb 19 (NationPress) An individual from J&K’s Rajouri district was arrested by the army, leading to the recovery of two foreign-manufactured pistols, according to officials on Thursday.
Identified as Sachin Kumar, a resident of Sair village located near the Line of Control (LoC), he was detained by an Army patrol team in Raipur village within the Nowshera sector late Wednesday night. The recovery included two pistols, one produced in Turkey and the other in China, along with four magazines and 15 rounds of ammunition,” stated an official.
A case has been filed against Sachin Kumar, and an investigation is currently in progress, as per the official.
“Initial questioning indicated that the suspect had purportedly received the weapons from across the border and was assigned to deliver them to another individual when intercepted by the patrol. Efforts are underway to identify the intended recipient of the firearms and to investigate the broader cross-border network,” the official added.
In a related incident, security forces have initiated a search operation in the Marlog and Lodra forests in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur district following reports of three suspected terrorists in the region.
“The operation is currently in progress,” stated an official.
The army is responsible for securing the 740-km-long LoC in J&K, while the Border Security Force (BSF) oversees the 240-km-long international border.
While both the Army and the BSF work to prevent infiltration, cross-border smuggling, and drone activities on the LoC and the international border, J&K Police and other security forces conduct anti-terrorist operations within the region.
These operations target terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers.
Additionally, drug smugglers, drug peddlers, and individuals involved in the hawala money racket are also under scrutiny by the security forces.
It is believed that the funds generated from these illegal activities ultimately support terrorism in J&K.
