Patna, Oct 21 (NationPress) In a collaborative operation late Monday night, Jamui Police, Special Task Force (STF), and the CRPF's Cobra Battalion seized a sophisticated AK-47 rifle magazine along with 12 live cartridges close to Bariyarpur village, within the jurisdiction of the Malaypur police station.
This recovery occurs amidst enhanced security protocols ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.
As reported by the police, the Jamui Superintendent of Police (SP), Vishwajeet Dayal, received intelligence about suspicious activity near a rundown Irrigation Department structure along the riverbank.
Responding to this alert, a team led by SDPO Satish Suman, including officers from the district police, STF, and CRPF's 119th Battalion, executed a coordinated raid.
During the operation, the team discovered a loaded AK-47 magazine, comprising 10 live cartridges and two additional INSAS rifle cartridges.
Footprints and motorcycle tire tracks were located in the vicinity, suggesting that a group had congregated at the site and fled upon noticing police activity.
SP Vishwajeet Dayal indicated that Naxalite involvement remains a possibility.
He stated, “The Jamui police are fully vigilant and ready for the impending Assembly elections. The operation was conducted rapidly to avert any unfortunate incidents. Investigations are ongoing from all conceivable angles.”
He further noted that continuous raids and collaborative security operations are being conducted throughout the district to guarantee a peaceful, fair, and fear-free election.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) reported that cash, liquor, drugs, precious metals, and other inducements valued at Rs 71.57 crore have been confiscated thus far during the Bihar Assembly elections.
As per the Commission, these seizures, recorded until October 21, resulted from the coordinated efforts of 824 flying squads and enforcement teams stationed statewide.
The ECI highlighted that these teams are addressing election-related grievances within 100 minutes of receipt.
Citizens and political parties are encouraged to report violations of the Model Code of Conduct via the C-Vigil mobile app or the ECINET platform.
Despite Bihar's comprehensive prohibition policy since 2016, authorities have intercepted considerable amounts of illicit liquor during the election season, a trend the Commission finds troubling.
The Bihar Assembly elections are scheduled for two phases on November 6 and November 11, with vote counting set for November 14.
