Srinagar, Dec 23 (NationPress) On Tuesday, security forces reported that they successfully recovered arms and ammunition during a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to officials, the recovery took place in the Rajpora forest area of the Handwara sub-division.

“A suspicious location was pinpointed during the search, which led to the discovery of ammunition and an explosive device concealed in the forest. The seized items included 90 rounds of INSAS rifle ammunition, 90 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and one Chinese hand grenade,” the officials revealed.

It is noteworthy that on Monday, joint forces apprehended a terrorist associate during a CASO in the Wuyan Khrew area of Awantipora, recovering a pistol and live ammunition from his possession.

This joint operation involved the Awantipora Police, alongside personnel from the 50 Rashtriya Rifles of the Army and 185 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

The arrested individual was identified as Javid Ahmad Hajam, son of Abdul Rashid Hajam, a resident of Gulab Bagh Tral. During the search, security personnel retrieved one pistol and five live rounds from him.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused was actively involved in providing logistical support and facilitating the transportation of arms and ammunition for terrorists operating in the Pampore, Tral, and Awantipora areas of the police district.

The J&K Police and security forces are intensifying operations against terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers.

These coordinated efforts are aimed at dismantling the entire support system of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, rather than merely targeting the armed terrorists.

Moreover, police, after obtaining court orders, have been attaching properties of terrorists, OGWs, sympathizers, and drug smugglers, in addition to prosecuting the individuals under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967 (UAPA). The properties attached are those acquired from funds generated through terrorism and other criminal enterprises.

Point of View

The consistent actions by J&K Police and security forces underline a robust commitment to counter-terrorism efforts. Their initiatives not only target armed individuals but also aim to dismantle the entire support system enabling terrorism. This comprehensive strategy is vital for restoring peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
