Srinagar, Nov 21 (NationPress) On Friday, security forces successfully uncovered a terror hideout in the vicinity of the Line of Control (LoC) within the Nowgam sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, as reported by an official.
The operation led to the discovery of a terror hideout located in the Neeriyan forest area, adjacent to the LoC in the Nowgam sector of Kupwara district.
During this operation, security forces seized two M-series rifles along with four magazines, two Chinese-made pistols accompanied by three magazines, two hand grenades, and numerous live ammunition rounds. A case has been filed and investigations are ongoing, stated the official.
The Jammu and Kashmir region features a 740-km long LoC that stretches through Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora districts within the Kashmir Valley, and into Poonch, Rajouri, and partially within the Jammu district of the Jammu division.
Additionally, this union territory shares a 240-km long international border (IB) with Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts in the Jammu division.
The army is responsible for securing the LoC, while the Border Security Force (BSF) monitors the IB.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces conduct anti-terrorist operations in the hinterland, while the army and the BSF are tasked with preventing infiltration and dismantling cross-border smuggling.
Security forces are actively engaged in rigorous anti-terrorist operations targeting not just armed terrorists, but also their over ground workers (OGWs) and sympathizers, aiming to dismantle the entire terror ecosystem rather than merely eliminating armed threats.
Furthermore, drug traffickers, narcotics dealers, and individuals engaged in hawala transactions and other illicit activities are also under scrutiny, as it is believed that the revenue from these illegal operations is funneled to support terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Intelligence agencies report that terror groups operating from across the LoC, with assistance from the Pakistani army, are making concerted efforts to infiltrate as many terrorists as possible into Indian territory before heavy snowfall obstructs mountain passes this winter.
