Srinagar, March 17 (NationPress) A Pakistani militant was neutralized during a joint operation by security forces in Kupwara district of J&K on Monday, according to officials.

The SSP of Handwara, Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary, stated that the operation commenced early in the morning, triggered by specific intelligence information.

“During the operation, contact was established with the militant, resulting in his neutralization. The militant was identified as Safiullah, a long-active resident of Pakistan.

He mentioned that the security forces, including the Handwara police, 21 Rashtriya Rifles, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), recovered an AK-47 rifle, four magazines, a grenade, and other incriminating materials from the location.

“The area has been secured, and investigations are currently ongoing,” the SSP confirmed.

The encounter had initiated earlier in the day between the security forces and the hiding militant in Kupwara.

Officials reported that, following intelligence about the presence of militants in Krumbhoora (Zachaldara) village, security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO).

“As the security forces advanced towards the hiding militant, he opened fire, prompting an encounter,” an official explained.

Authorities cordoned off the area and dispatched additional reinforcements to ensure operational success.

Civilians in the vicinity were urged to remain indoors and avoid approaching the encounter site for their safety.

Militants, operating under directives from their handlers across the border in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), have escalated their activities. Intelligence sources believe that the upcoming, peaceful Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections in 2024 have frustrated these terror handlers.

Recently, militants killed three innocent civilians in Kathua district, including a 14-year-old boy.

The bodies of two out of three civilians who disappeared from the Qazigund area of Kulgam district on February 14 have been located.

These civilians, hailing from Rajouri district in the Jammu division, were laborers in the Valley seeking to earn a living.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has convened three security review meetings regarding J&K since the start of 2025, issuing unequivocal directives to security forces to ensure zero infiltration and zero tolerance towards terrorists and their supporters in the Union Territory.

Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha has also conducted two consecutive security reviews, one in Srinagar and another in Jammu, instructing police and security forces to dismantle the entire terror ecosystem maintained by militants, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers.

He emphasized that funds generated from drug smuggling, trafficking, and hawala rackets ultimately support terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. The fight against terror cannot succeed in isolation unless its support channels are disrupted.
