One Militant Neutralized During Ongoing Encounter in Srinagar, J&K

Srinagar, Dec 3 (NationPress) A militant was neutralized on Tuesday during an ongoing encounter with the security forces in the Srinagar district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials reported that one militant has been eliminated thus far in the current anti-terror operation being conducted by the security forces in the elevated regions of the Harwan mountain range within the Srinagar district.
“The operation is still active in the region,” officials stated.
Clashes had erupted late Monday evening between the security forces and militants in the high-altitude area.
“These clashes began during a CASO (Cordon and Search Operation) initiated by the security forces following specific intelligence regarding the presence of militants in the vicinity.
“One militant has been eliminated in this operation so far. The cordon surrounding the area where militants are suspected to be hiding has been intensified. The operation resumed at first light on Tuesday morning,” the officials added.
Recently, security forces have escalated operations against militants following a series of attacks attributed to them.
On October 20, militants took the lives of seven individuals during an assault on a workers' camp for an infrastructure project in the Gagangir area of the Ganderbal district.
On October 24, militants killed three soldiers and two civilian porters during an attack on an army vehicle in the Botapathri region of Gulmarg in Baramulla district.
The deaths of nine civilians and three soldiers in these two incidents in Gagangir and Gulmarg drew widespread condemnation.
On November 2, militants threw a grenade at the bustling Sunday Market near the tourist reception center in Srinagar, resulting in the death of a 42-year-old mother of three and injuring nine other civilians.
Following these incidents, J&K Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha declared that those responsible would face severe repercussions, asserting that every drop of civilian bloodshed would be avenged.
In response, security forces have intensified their focus on targeting militants, their over-ground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers. The campaign against drug traffickers and dealers has also been amplified.
Intelligence agencies suggest that the funds acquired from the drug trade are utilized to support terrorism, and a portion of these drugs is distributed among youth to bring them under the influence of the terror handlers.
