The joint forces initiated a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the Shukroo Keller area after receiving intelligence reports indicating that a group of terrorists was concealed there.
Upon engaging with the forces, the terrorists opened fire, prompting an exchange of gunfire that led to the death of three militants. The operation is still active, as per police reports.
Sources indicate that two to three additional terrorists may still be trapped within the area.
The Indian Army confirmed that a targeted search and destroy operation was launched based on precise intelligence regarding the terrorists' location in Shoekal Keller.
During this operation, the terrorists engaged in heavy firing, resulting in a fierce confrontation that led to the neutralization of three hardcore militants.
The Indian Army affirmed, “Operation is ongoing.”
This incident marks the second terrorist activity in Jammu and Kashmir following the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan on May 11.
Earlier that evening, suspected militants fired at a guard stationed at the entrance of the Army's Nagrota Corps headquarters, injuring one soldier. The attackers managed to flee the scene.
Security forces remain vigilant throughout Jammu and Kashmir, especially since the Pakistan Army has violated the ceasefire accord on Saturday, despite both nations declaring an end to hostilities across land, air, and sea.
Authorities have advised hundreds of residents in border areas along the LoC and IB to refrain from returning home until the situation stabilizes.
