Jammu, April 11 (NationPress) A militant was neutralized in a coordinated operation carried out against terrorists in J&K's Kishtwar district on Friday, as per official reports.
The operation commenced on April 9 in the Chatroo region of Kishtwar and involved both the army and various security forces.
"The operation was initiated based on precise intelligence inputs, which culminated in a firefight with terrorists, leading to the neutralization of one militant. The search operation, executed by the army and police, is ongoing as they aim to flush out terrorists hiding in the thick forests," an official stated.
Another operation is currently underway in the Joffar forest area under the jurisdiction of the Ramnagar police station in Udhampur district.
A Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was initiated on April 9, with reports indicating that three terrorists are trapped within the cordoned area.
A civilian, Rachpal, informed security forces that three heavily armed terrorists dressed in black entered his home around 8:30 p.m. on April 9 and departed by 11:30 p.m.
Following this revelation, security forces tightened the cordon and, after additional reinforcements were called in, the joint forces closed in on the hiding militants, according to the latest updates.
On March 3, a police team quickly responded to Sanyal village in the Hiranagar area of Kathua district, where five terrorists were sighted.
Given the proximity of Sanyal village—merely 4 km from the international border—it is suspected that the group of terrorists observed there had recently infiltrated into India.
The terrorists managed to escape from Sanyal to the Safiyun Jakhole area. The police engaged the militants in a prolonged gunfight, resulting in the death of two terrorists.
Regrettably, four policemen lost their lives during this encounter. To locate the remaining three terrorists, joint forces initiated a 'seek & destroy' operation, extending their efforts to the higher regions of Kathua and Rajouri districts.
A brief exchange of gunfire occurred between the terrorists and the joint forces in the Billawar area of Kathua district.
On April 8, Union Home Minister Amit Shah presided over a high-level security review meeting in Srinagar, attended by the J&K Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha, the Union Home Secretary, the IB chief, the army chief, the Northern Commander of the army, GOCs of all corps in J&K, chiefs of paramilitary forces, the J&K DGP, and heads of other intelligence agencies.
The Home Minister commended the joint forces for their efforts in combating terrorism, while issuing directives for the complete eradication of terrorism from J&K, with a particular emphasis on the Jammu division of the Union Territory.
