According to an official, three militants are believed to be trapped within the cordoned area in the Jopher locality of Udhampur, while two militants are confined in the cordoned-off section of Kishtwar.
A shootout commenced earlier in the day between the combined forces and the militants hiding in Udhampur.
Officials indicated that the joint forces acted on precise intelligence inputs regarding the presence of militants in Jopher village of Udhampur, which falls under the jurisdiction of Ramnagar police station.
As the police and security teams advanced, they came under fire from the militants, resulting in an ongoing encounter, according to an official.
While the shootout in Udhampur was underway, the joint forces surrounded Chatroo village in Kishtwar, leading to the initiation of the second encounter.
Previously, on March 23, an encounter occurred in Sanyal village of Kathua district, situated just 4 km from the international border with Pakistan.
The encounter extended to Safiyan Jakhole village, where two militants were killed and four policemen lost their lives. The combined forces expanded the area under the “seek & destroy” operation into the higher terrains of Kathua and Rajouri districts.
There was a brief exchange of gunfire between the joint forces and the militants in the Billawar area of Kathua.
Reports suggest that five militants infiltrated into the Indian side of the border, and this same group was involved in the shootouts in Sanyal and Safiyan Jakhole villages.
Two militants were eliminated in the Safiyan Jakhole area, and the joint forces continue to operate to locate the remaining three militants.
