Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jammu, Jan 7 (NationPress) A significant encounter is currently taking place between security forces and armed militants in the mountainous region of Billawar, located in the Kathua district of J&K.
According to officials, the confrontation began in the village of Kahog within Billawar tehsil on Wednesday evening, following a search operation initiated based on intelligence regarding the presence of two to three militants in the vicinity.
IGP Jammu zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, confirmed the ongoing encounter via a post on X.
The senior police official stated, “SOG Kathua has engaged militants in the Kamadh Nullah forest area, Kathua.”
Authorities indicated that it might involve the same militant observed earlier today in nearby locations.
“Reinforcements have been dispatched to the village to bolster the security forces’ presence to prevent the militants from escaping,” officials noted.
Additional information is awaited.
On January 8, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lead a high-level security review meeting concerning J&K in New Delhi. The agenda includes discussions focused on eliminating militants in the elevated regions of J&K and ensuring zero infiltration across the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB), among other security matters.
The J&K Police and security forces are intensifying operations against militants, their Over Ground Workers (OGWs), sympathizers, drug traffickers, and individuals involved in hawala money schemes.
These coordinated operations aim to dismantle the entire support network of terrorism in J&K, rather than merely targeting armed militants.
Additionally, the J&K Police are attaching properties linked to militants, OGWs, and their sympathizers, while also detaining OGWs and sympathizers under the UAPA.
Such property attachments are executed following court orders, as they are proven to have been acquired through funds generated from terrorist activities.
