Jammu, April 1 (NationPress) J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat visited the operation site in Kathua district on Tuesday, where joint forces are engaged in a search operation for three terrorists who escaped.
Accompanied by IGP Jammu, Bhim Sen Tuti, the DGP reviewed the ongoing combing operation aimed at tracking down the terrorists who fled following a brief confrontation with security forces last evening.
Officials reported that the DGP, along with DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma, arrived at the Panjtirthi site in Kathua where the operation is in progress.
“The DGP traversed the riverine terrain alongside his team to motivate the joint forces involved in the mission,” stated an official.
Led by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police, the Army, and the CRPF, the operation has entered its tenth day as of Tuesday.
During an encounter last Thursday in the Saniyal area of Kathua, two terrorists were neutralized and four policemen lost their lives, approximately 4 km from the international border.
“Security forces are actively searching for the three remaining terrorists who managed to escape from Saniyal,” the official confirmed.
The first encounter with the terrorists occurred in Saniyal on March 23, followed by another engagement on March 27 in a forest area, resulting in the death of two terrorists while three others escaped.
“Subsequently, security forces launched an extensive operation to locate them. The search operation intensified early Monday morning with aerial surveillance and sniffer dogs deployed, leading to a new exchange of gunfire last evening,” the official added.
“However, as of Tuesday morning, there has been no further contact (gunfire exchange) with the terrorists. The operation continues,” the official concluded.
