Jammu, March 28 (NationPress) Three terrorists have been eliminated, and three policemen have lost their lives while seven security personnel sustained injuries during the ongoing counter-terrorism operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, which resumed on Friday morning.

Officials confirmed that three terrorists were killed in the Ghati Heights area of Sufiyan Jakhole village within the district. Unfortunately, three members of the special operations group (SOG) of J&K Police also perished in the line of duty.

Among the injured are Deputy SP border Dheeraj Katoch and a para commando from the army, both of whom have been transported to a hospital in Jammu, while the DySP is receiving care at the government medical college (GMC) hospital in Kathua.

The operation against the terrorists recommenced at dawn today.

Based on reports of terrorist sightings in Sanyal village last Sunday, and with two terrorists still suspected to be holed up in Ghati Heights, it is believed that this group had previously escaped from Sanyal village and is now attempting to make its way to Billawar in the Kathua district.

Civilians first spotted the movement of terrorists in the Ghati Heights of Safiyan Jakhole at 7 a.m. on Thursday and promptly notified the police.

“Units from the local police and the SOG, led by SDPO Border Dheeraj Katoch, quickly arrived on the scene and engaged in a firefight with the terrorists, who were armed with advanced weaponry like M4 Carbines. Subsequently, army personnel, including para commandos, were air dropped to provide additional support, alongside reinforcements from police and paramilitary forces,” officials reported.

“The three SOG personnel who were the first responders faced martyrdom in this operation. One para commando and six policemen, including the DySP, were injured. As of last evening, three terrorists have been neutralized, and their bodies are currently on a hill, awaiting retrieval post-operation. One of the bodies has been burned. All are believed to be Pakistani nationals.

The fallen police officers have been identified as Tariq Ahmad, son of Kabir Hussain from Reasi; Jaswant Singh, son of Angrez Singh from Londi, Hiranagar; and Balwinder Singh, son of Prem Singh from Kana Chak, Kathua, all serving as selection grade constables in J&K Police.

“The terrorists are believed to be affiliated with the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) organization and appear to be well-trained. The confrontation led to heavy gunfire and explosions, with the army deploying rocket launchers against the terrorists, who were heavily armed with M4 Carbines and grenades. Local youths were observed aiding security forces in transporting heavy weapons and ammunition deeper into a gorge. Senior police officials are currently on-site to oversee the ongoing operation,” the officials added.

“There is a possibility that two more terrorists remain. Special army para commandos were airdropped yesterday evening to reinforce the cordon surrounding the area. Drones have identified the bodies of three terrorists, which are expected to be recovered on Friday morning,” official sources stated.
