Jammu, April 10 (NationPress) Combat resumed on Thursday between the combined security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district.

Officials reported that fresh exchanges of gunfire commenced this morning in the Joffar area of the district, following an encounter that had started the previous day.

The joint forces reinforced the cordon around the encounter location overnight to prevent the militants from escaping under the cover of darkness.

A local resident informed the security forces that three militants clad in black had entered his residence around 8 p.m. on Wednesday and departed around 11:30 p.m. when the operation against them was initiated. This led to a gunfight between the joint forces and the militants in Joffar, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Ramnagar police station.

According to officials, as the police and security teams advanced, they were met with gunfire from the militants, igniting the ongoing encounter.

It is noteworthy that an encounter took place on March 23 in Sanyal village, located just 4 km inside the International Border of India.

This confrontation extended into Safiyan Jakhole village, resulting in the death of two militants and four police personnel.

The joint forces expanded the 'seek and destroy' operations to the elevated areas of the Kathua and Rajouri districts, where brief gunfire exchanges occurred between the forces and militants in the Billawar region of Kathua.

Reports indicated that five militants had infiltrated into Indian territory across the International Border, with this group engaged in the gunfight in Sanyal and Safiyan Jakhole villages, where two militants were killed in the latter.

Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a security review meeting in Srinagar, issuing explicit directives to eliminate terrorism and restore lasting peace in the union territory.
