13 Militants and Army Officer Killed in Pakistan's Counter-Terrorism Efforts

Islamabad, Dec 27 (NationPress) An army officer along with 13 militants were killed in three distinct operations executed by security forces in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province over the last two days, according to an official statement from the army.

One of the operations took place in Bannu district, where the security forces successfully targeted the militants' hideout, resulting in the death of two terrorists during the encounter, as reported by Xinhua news agency citing the military's media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

In a separate operation within North Waziristan district, a fierce gun battle ensued, leading to the death of both the military officer and five militants. The statement also highlighted that eight terrorists sustained injuries.

The third operation occurred in South Waziristan district, culminating in the death of six militants, with an additional eight injured, according to the statement.

The ISPR indicated that operations will continue in order to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the vicinity.

Earlier this month, four militants were killed and two policemen injured when police in Punjab province thwarted a terrorist attack, as stated by officials.

This incident took place in Mianwali district of the province, where approximately 20 militants launched an assault on a police station, according to the district's police.

The police stationed within the facility were vigilant, and due to their prompt response, the terrorists' scheme was thwarted, causing them to retreat.

The confrontation triggered a firefight, resulting in the death of the militants, as per the police report.

Authorities have secured the bodies, and an investigation is currently underway to ascertain their identities.
