According to local sources and police, the assault occurred around 2 am at the police outpost located in Barang tehsil of Bajaur district, nestled in the mountainous Kohi Sar region.
Israr Khan, the district police spokesperson, identified the deceased as Naseem Gul, a 60-year-old local resident. The injured included two police officers: Constable Suliman Khan, aged 35, and Constable Saz Muhammad, aged 58, along with Sahibzada, a 28-year-old school watchman.

As per data from the Islamabad-based Pak Institute for Peace Studies, Pakistan has witnessed a significant increase in militant activity in 2025, with a 34 percent rise in attacks and a 21 percent increase in fatalities year over year. The report indicated that there were a total of 699 militant attacks across Pakistan in 2025, resulting in 1,034 deaths and 1,366 injuries.
Previously, in a related incident last month, five police officers lost their lives when their mobile unit was attacked in the Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as confirmed by local authorities.
District Police Officer (DPO) Saud Khan stated that the officers were ambushed when gunmen opened fire on them before fleeing the scene. The attack involved a vehicle that was part of a security detail for a private gas company, which was subsequently set ablaze by the assailants, as reported by The Express Tribune.
