Islamabad, Dec 9 (NationPress) A police officer sustained injuries when assailants attacked a police station in the Bannu district of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to reports from local media.

As reported by a police representative, the Ahmadzai police station was struck by sniper fire on Monday. During a fierce gunfight, the additional SHO, Hassan-al-Maab, was injured.

The injured officer was promptly taken to a hospital for medical attention, while law enforcement dispatched additional personnel to the scene in an attempt to apprehend the attackers.

Earlier on December 3, a blast targeting a police vehicle in the Dera Ismail Khan area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resulted in the deaths of three police officers, including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), as reported by district police spokesperson Yaqoob Zulqarnain.

Zulqarnain confirmed that an improvised explosive device was utilized in the explosion in the Paniyala area, according to Dawn.

In this tragic attack, ASI Gul Alam, Constable Rafiq, and the mobile van driver, Sakhi Jan, lost their lives, while another constable escaped unharmed.

On December 2, four individuals, including a senior government official, were killed when the convoy of North Waziristan Assistant Commissioner Shah Wali Khan was ambushed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as reported by Samaa TV.

Shah Wali Khan was traveling with his security detail on the Bannu–Miranshah Road when the convoy was targeted near Masoomabad Mamandkhel. He died instantly, along with two police officers and a civilian.

Additionally, three others, including two members of Shah Wali Khan's security team and the driver of the convoy, were injured in this incident.

Pakistan has experienced a rise in militant activities over the past year, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the end of a ceasefire by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in November 2022.

Moreover, the Islamabad-based Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) recently published a security report indicating a more than 46 percent increase in overall violence across the nation during the third quarter of 2025.

The report indicated that Pakistan recorded at least 901 deaths and 599 injuries—among civilians, security forces, and criminals—due to 329 violent incidents, including terrorist attacks and counter-terror operations.

From January to September 2024 (Q1-Q3), Pakistan documented 1,527 fatalities. The 2414 deaths during the same timeframe reflect a 58 percent rise in violence. Notably, 505 fatalities resulted from security operations in 2024, while 1022 individuals died from terrorist attacks.

Point of View

It is imperative to approach this alarming increase in violence with a focus on the broader implications for Pakistan. The continuous targeting of police personnel not only poses a severe threat to security forces but also undermines public trust in law enforcement. It is crucial for the government to address these escalating militant activities with effective strategies to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
