Islamabad, Nov 25 (NationPress) A soldier sustained injuries when armed assailants attacked a vehicle belonging to the Pakistani security forces on a link road in Domel town, located in the Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as reported by local media on Tuesday.

A police official indicated that the injured soldier was promptly transferred to a hospital in Bannu Cantonment. He further noted that security forces and police initiated a joint search operation across the area, resulting in the deaths and injuries of several 'terrorists', according to Pakistan's leading daily, Dawn. The security personnel have cordoned off the region in an effort to apprehend the fleeing attackers.

Just last week, two police officers lost their lives and four others were injured following a bomb targeting a police van in Dera Ismail Khan, another area in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The District Police Officer (DPO) of Dera Ismail Khan, Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada, confirmed the casualties, explaining that a remotely controlled explosive detonated as an armored police vehicle was on patrol along the Hathala-Giloti road.

This attack on the police vehicle occurred shortly after a bomb incident in the Daraban tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan, where at least 14 security personnel were injured when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) struck a security forces vehicle.

Pakistan has experienced an increase in terrorist activities over the past year, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the cessation of a ceasefire by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) with the government in November 2022.

On November 8, a police officer was injured when unidentified attackers targeted a checkpost in the Tangi area of Khar tehsil in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The injured officer was identified as Azad Khan, who was shot from an unknown location, as reported by Dawn.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad-based Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) published a recent security report indicating a more than 46 percent escalation in overall violence within Pakistan's security landscape for the third quarter of 2025.

The report noted at least 901 fatalities and 599 injuries among civilians, security forces, and outlaws from 329 incidents of violence, which included terror attacks and counter-terror operations.

Between January and September 2024, Pakistan recorded 1,527 fatalities (Q1-Q3). The 2,414 fatalities during the same period indicated a surge of 58 percent in violence. Notably, 505 deaths were attributed to security operations in 2024, while 1,022 people died as a result of terrorist attacks.

The report highlighted, 'In 2025, security operations accounted for 1,265 deaths – over half of the total fatalities. This shift underscores how the state's response has intensified, with security forces inflicting heavier losses on militants.'

The CRSS report further stated, 'Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan accounted for over 96 percent of the country's violence in this quarter. KP was the worst-hit region, suffering nearly 71 percent (638) of the total violence-linked fatalities and over 67 percent (221) of the incidents of violence. Balochistan followed, with over 25 percent of fatalities (230) and incidents (85). Fatalities, injuries, and incidents recorded in all other regions remained relatively low.'

Point of View

I emphasize the importance of addressing the ongoing security challenges in Pakistan. The rise in violence, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, demands urgent attention and effective strategies to protect our citizens. We stand with the nation in advocating for a safer environment for all.
