Patna, June 23 (NationPress) In a significant development, the Kaimur Police in Bihar apprehended two suspects who were found with a substantial shipment of live cartridges at the Mohania check post, officials reported on Monday.
The individuals taken into custody have been named as Shatrughan Sharma (38), hailing from Auraiya district, Uttar Pradesh, and Kumar Abhijit (25), from Nalanda district, Bihar.
They were intercepted while driving a white Maruti Breeza along National Highway-19.
Initially, the duo attempted to flee near the check-post despite being ordered to stop, prompting a brief chase by the joint team.
Following reliable intelligence, a collaborative effort involving the Special Task Force (STF), Kaimur District Police, and Nalanda Police was launched.
“A total of 3,700 live cartridges were discovered, stored in 60 plastic bags,” stated Hari Mohan Shukla, SP of Kaimur, during a press briefing.
The cache included 2,950 brass-colored 8 mm live cartridges in 60 packets and 750 brass-colored 315-bore cartridges in four packets.
Initial findings indicated that the shipment was being moved from Kanpur (U.P.) to Bihar Sharif in Nalanda district.
Police sources confirmed that the suspects could not present any valid documentation for the shipment.
After their apprehension, both were brought before a local court, which remanded them to judicial custody for 14 days.
“The prompt and unified action of the STF and local police resulted in this successful seizure. Up to now, there is no known criminal background for the accused, but the father of Kumar Abhijit is under investigation, as his name has arisen during the inquiry,” SP Shukla mentioned.
“An FIR has been filed under relevant sections of the Arms Act at the Mohania police station in Kaimur district,” Shukla added.
The police are currently probing the broader network and potential links to illegal arms trafficking. Further arrests are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
