The estimated street value of the seized narcotic is approximately Rs 1 crore.
Kishanganj Superintendent of Police Sagar Kumar hailed the seizure and arrests as a significant breakthrough, indicating that the collaborative effort has effectively dismantled an inter-state drug trafficking operation.
The suspects have been identified as Baliram Chaurasia from Shivrampur in Ballia district (Uttar Pradesh) and Lalita Devi from Muzaffarpur district (Bihar).
SP Sagar Kumar explained that the police acted on specific intelligence regarding the illegal transportation of narcotics through the area.
A specialized team led by SDPO-1 Gautam Kumar was established to monitor suspicious activities in the vicinity.
“The team enhanced surveillance near the railway station, where they identified the two suspects. Upon conducting a search, we recovered the illegal substance,” stated SP Kumar.
During interrogation, the suspects disclosed that they were instructed by an individual from Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh) to travel to Manipur and smuggle heroin back.
The apprehended individuals were on their way back from Manipur when they were caught in Kishanganj, Bihar.
“Currently, we are not disclosing the name of the individual who assigned them this task as the investigation is ongoing,” added the SP.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Town Police Station against them.
The police are actively working to identify and capture other members of the smuggling ring. A team will soon head to Ratlam to apprehend the mastermind behind the operation.
The district police are also investigating how the suspects acquired heroin in Manipur.
SP Sagar Kumar stressed that the crackdown on drug trafficking will persist, as these operations are part of a broader initiative to combat the illegal narcotics trade in the region.
