Patna, March 21 (NationPress) In a significant operation, a collaborative effort by the police and the Narcotics Cell in Samastipur district has dismantled a drug trafficking ring, resulting in the arrest of two suspects and the confiscation of heroin valued at around Rs 6 lakh.

A press statement from the Superintendent of Police’s office indicated that actionable intelligence was gathered on the morning of March 21, 2026, regarding the arrival of narcotics gang members at Shahpur Patori railway station with a shipment of heroin.

In response, a specialized team, including local police officers and the Block Development Officer, was assembled. The team set up a perimeter and secured the area around the station.

During the operation, a man and a woman were detained while behaving suspiciously in the vicinity of the station.

The suspects were identified as Rahul Kumar (26), who hails from Vaishali, and Shanti Devi, a resident of Assam.

Upon searching their belongings, police discovered heroin — locally known as ‘kota’ — cleverly hidden inside four boxes of sago (sabudana).

Additionally, two mobile devices, cash, railway tickets, and identification cards were confiscated from them.

Initial questioning revealed that the suspects were part of a network smuggling narcotics from northeastern states into Bihar.

The police suspect the existence of a larger interstate syndicate and are actively identifying additional gang members and their criminal connections.

A case has been filed under the NDPS Act at Patori Police Station, and investigations are ongoing.

Previously, on March 17, a combined team from the Narcotics Control Bureau and Patna Police faced an attack from alleged drug traffickers and local residents in the Mandiri Kath Pul area, under the jurisdiction of Buddha Colony Police Station in Patna.

This joint team had been there for a raid against illegal drugs when a mob tried to liberate the detained suspects, prompting police to fire several rounds into the air to regain control of the situation.

Point of View

This incident highlights the persistent struggle against drug trafficking in India. The authorities' swift action reflects a commitment to public safety and the need for continued vigilance in combating narcotics-related crimes.
