Patna, Dec 24 (NationPress) The East Champaran Police in Bihar have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking by dismantling an international and inter-state smuggling network operating along the Indo-Nepal border.

Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) collaborated with the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) to execute a coordinated operation in the Jitna police station area, resulting in the confiscation of narcotics valued at around Rs 1.5 crore in the international market.

During this operation, authorities apprehended a trafficker masquerading as a sadhu (holy man) to avoid detection.

The individual, identified as Naresh Das, was caught in the act while carrying 8 kilograms of Charas and marijuana, cleverly hidden beneath his saffron robes.

He thought that his religious garb would protect him from scrutiny, but vigilant security personnel identified his suspicious conduct and thwarted his plan.

The police are currently investigating how often the suspect has successfully smuggled narcotics while using this disguise.

During initial questioning, the arrested trafficker made several vital revelations.

SP Swarn Prabhat announced that the gang was importing narcotics from Nepal and distributing them across Uttar Pradesh and other regions of the country.

“Based on information received, police teams have initiated raids to capture additional members of the network. Several prominent figures associated with this trafficking operation are expected to be unveiled soon,” Prabhat stated.

In light of this major seizure, security measures have been intensified along the Indo-Nepal border, particularly in Raxaul and adjacent areas, where thorough inspections of suspicious vehicles and individuals are currently underway.

In another notable operation, the East Champaran district police apprehended three traffickers and recovered 7.650 kilograms of high-grade Charas and marijuana.

The arrested individuals include Ayush Kumar from Shahpur, Uttar Pradesh, Riyaz Khan from Bettiah, and Chand Mohammad from Haraiya, East Champaran.

Acting on a tip-off, an SIT led by Raxaul DSP Manish Anand, along with a magistrate, conducted a search operation near Pantoka village and made the arrests.

SP Swarn Prabhat emphasized that the district police are committed to a zero tolerance policy against drug trafficking, warning that individuals involved in this illegal trade will face consequences, regardless of their status or connections.

Point of View

This operation by the East Champaran Police is a vital step in combating drug trafficking, showcasing the effectiveness of coordinated law enforcement efforts. The ongoing investigation not only aims to apprehend more individuals involved in this illicit trade but also serves as a strong message that drug-related crimes will not be tolerated.
