East Champaran: Five Arrested in Major Heroin Smuggling Bust

Patna, Dec 12 (NationPress) In a notable crackdown carried out by the East Champaran Police in partnership with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), five suspects were apprehended on Thursday for transporting highly refined heroin along with a chemical in the East Champaran district of Bihar.

The operation unfolded in a village governed by the Chhatauni police station, where authorities confiscated two kilograms of illicit substance along with a chemical utilized in the refinement of brown sugar. The estimated worth of the seized items in the international market stands at ₹7 crore.

According to East Champaran Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat, "This operation was executed in conjunction with the NCB. Five individuals have been detained, and the contraband, along with a chemical, has been recovered. The detained suspects are now in judicial custody."

He elaborated that the operation spanned over two regions: Chhatauni police station and Ramgarhwa police station.

Of the five apprehended, two are from Vaishali district, while the remaining three are residents of Ramgarhwa, he stated.

He indicated that ongoing investigations are likely to reveal more insights into the smuggling network.

The five identified suspects associated with the contraband smuggling include Sumit Kumar, Sarvesh Kumar Yadav, Rajrat Prasad, Ratnesh Kumar Mishra, and Dharamveer Kumar Pandey.

“The joint team executed a raid in a village under the jurisdiction of Chhatauni police station and apprehended two smugglers found in possession of 2 kg of heroin in a Tata Punch vehicle. Following their confession, three additional suspects were arrested from Ramgarhwa village, and 5 litres of chemical were seized,” Prabhat reported.

An FIR has been lodged under the pertinent sections of the NDPS Act at both the Chhatauni and Ramgarhwa police stations, with investigations continuing to unveil the identities of the handlers and the expansive network involved.

It is noteworthy that East Champaran district lies adjacent to the Nepal border, and the district SP confirmed that the contraband was smuggled from Nepal.
