Chandigarh, Jan 25 (NationPress) In light of the increased security measures to facilitate a peaceful Republic Day celebration, teams from the Punjab Police conducted flag marches in various sensitive regions throughout the state on Sunday.
The Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, has instructed the Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to implement robust security protocols in their respective areas of responsibility.
Furthermore, he emphasized that all Station House Officers (SHOs) and Gazetted Officers should remain actively engaged in the field until the Republic Day festivities conclude.
Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla stated that police teams under the leadership of CPs and SSPs conducted flag marches in the most sensitive and at-risk neighborhoods of their districts.
This operation was designed not only to instill confidence among the citizens but also to prepare law enforcement personnel for any unforeseen incidents.
He noted that security has been significantly enhanced statewide, with 20,000 police personnel deployed to monitor anti-social elements and guarantee peaceful Republic Day celebrations.
The Special DGP also mentioned that officers were instructed to carry out a special cordon and search operation (CASO), overseen by a SP-rank officer, in crowded venues such as railway stations, bus terminals, markets, shopping malls, and public parks across the state.
“We have firmly instructed all police personnel to interact with individuals in a friendly and courteous manner while conducting searches during this operation,” he added.
In addition, police units have sustained their anti-drug campaign, “Yudh Nashian Virudh,” for the 330th day, resulting in the arrest of 50 drug traffickers on Sunday and the seizure of 150 grams of heroin along with 376 intoxicating tablets and capsules.
This brings the total number of drug traffickers apprehended to 46,443 over the course of these 330 days.
As part of the de-addiction initiative, police have successfully persuaded eight individuals to seek rehabilitation and treatment.
