Patna, July 21 (NationPress) Rabri Devi, the former Chief Minister and current Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council, has voiced her strong disapproval of Nitish Kumar in light of the increasing crime rates in Bihar. She has suggested that if Kumar is unable to manage the escalating situation, he should consider transferring the Chief Minister’s role to his son, Nishant Kumar.
Recent weeks have seen a surge in criminal activities within Patna and throughout Bihar, raising serious doubts regarding the efficacy of the government and police forces. The opposition has ramped up its critique of the Nitish-led NDA government concerning law and order.
Rabri Devi stated to the media outside the Bihar Assembly, “Crime has surged to alarming levels across the state. The law-and-order situation in Bihar has completely deteriorated. Even as Home Minister, Nitish Kumar seems incapable of addressing this crisis.”
She further remarked, “It is irrelevant whether Nitish Kumar resigns or not; he should now pass the Chief Minister’s position to his son Nishant. Perhaps his son could effectively manage Bihar.”
Rabri Devi also expressed her apprehensions regarding the ongoing revision of the voter list in the state, questioning, “If individuals are removed from the voter list, does that mean they will no longer be regarded as citizens of Bihar and India?”
In response to Rabri Devi’s comments, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha countered, stating, “Individuals with convicted spouses can ascend to national leadership, yet not a single accusation has ever been directed at Nitish Kumar. He has propelled Bihar's development.”
On the topic of Nishant Kumar potentially entering politics, Sinha mentioned, “This is a private matter between father and son, and ultimately, it is up to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to make that decision.”
Rabri Devi's statements coincide with the commencement of the monsoon session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, where the opposition aims to challenge the government on issues such as law and order, the voter list revision, and unemployment ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
