New Delhi, July 6 (NationPress) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday spearheaded a call to action among party leaders, encouraging individuals to emulate the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain and foster unity and religious fraternity through unwavering struggle and commitment.
"On this occasion of Muharram, let us resolve to walk the path illuminated by Hazrat Imam Hussain, which through sacrifice, struggle, and dedication, guides us towards humanity, peace, and unity," stated the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha.
In a similar vein, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge conveyed a message advocating for a bold confrontation against injustice.
"On the solemn day of Ashura, the tenth of Muharram, we honor Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS). His remarkable life, teachings, righteousness, and courageous battle against injustice resonate throughout the ages, inspiring countless generations," he posted on X.
On Sunday, Muharram processions were held nationwide, including in the Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh, which faced tensions last November due to a court-mandated ASI survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid.
The district administration heightened security to ensure a peaceful observance of the occasion, reported an official.
A significant aspect of this year's preparations was the upgraded surveillance system.
As part of the 'Sambhal Ke Naam' initiative, over 12,000 NPR (Number Plate Recognition) and citizen-installed CCTV cameras were deployed across the district, allowing real-time monitoring of the processions. Furthermore, drone cameras provided aerial surveillance along the entire route.
Superintendent of Police Krishan Kumar Bishnoi mentioned that a total of 342 Tazias were anticipated across various district regions.
Peace committee meetings were conducted in advance, establishing coordination with Tazia organizers, he noted.
Each Tazia Dar submitted a list of designated volunteers, for whom the police issued unique identity cards, facilitating quick identification and assistance in emergencies.
The SP clarified that Tazia heights were capped at a maximum of 12 feet. In previous years, oversized Tazias required the temporary removal or alteration of electricity wires, resulting in disruptions and financial losses of approximately Rs 35-40 lakh.
This year, however, no such adjustments were necessary, as all processions adhered to the stipulated height and route guidelines, according to the police.
