Bhubaneswar, July 11 (NationPress) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday accused the BJP of attacking the Constitution of India, which safeguards the rights of Dalits, tribals, and the impoverished sections of society.
Speaking at the ‘Samvidhan Bachao Samavesh’ rally, Gandhi asserted that the government in Odisha is exploiting the land, forest, and water resources that rightfully belong to the tribal communities without providing them with fair compensation.
“This is an assault on the Constitution that upholds the rights of the underprivileged, farmers, and laborers. The Constitution stipulates that this nation belongs not just to a handful of billionaires but to every citizen,” Gandhi remarked.
The Congress leader further pointed out that farmers in Odisha are not receiving financial assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana despite suffering losses from natural calamities. He emphasized that development should cater to the majority, not just the elite few in Odisha and across India.
Touching on the controversial special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, Gandhi claimed, “Just as elections were manipulated in Maharashtra, there are attempts to do the same in Bihar. The Election Commission of India appears to be conspiring against fair elections, operating more as an arm of the BJP than an independent body.”
He mentioned that during elections in Maharashtra, one lakh new voters were registered under dubious circumstances.

Everyone deserves a stake in governance, economic opportunities, and development. Currently, representatives from Backward Castes, Dalits, and tribals are glaringly absent from government and corporate structures,” Gandhi stated.
He also expressed gratitude to the Odisha Drivers’ Mahasangha for their backing of the Congress party during the public rally and urged the government to address the legitimate demands of drivers who have been protesting for four days.
