New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) The political arena was set ablaze on Friday when Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi made a provocative remark referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a 'magician'. This comment was in response to the Union government's defense of three controversial Bills, leading to a heated uproar in the Lower House of Parliament, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) calling for an apology over his remarks.

The atmosphere in the House turned chaotic, marked by loud exchanges and demands for a retraction as Rahul's 'magician' quip stirred outrage among the ruling party members, who labeled it a disrespectful mockery of Parliament and the 1.4 billion citizens of India.

During the debate, Rahul Gandhi drew from his childhood experiences, sharing his fears and the pivotal role his grandmother, the late former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, played in helping him overcome them. He recounted a childhood magician's show, where one failed trick led to the end of the performance.

The LoP asserted that the BJP is aware that the Bill is unlikely to pass, yet Prime Minister Modi is attempting to convey two key messages: altering India's electoral landscape and positioning himself as pro-women.

Rahul's repeated references to a magician led to significant unrest in the House, prompting interventions from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. His pointed comments about the 'magician of Balakot' and 'the magician of demonetization' incited a furious response from BJP members.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju strongly condemned Rahul Gandhi's remarks, insisting that they be expunged from the official record. Rijiju stated that the Congress MP's characterization of the Operation Sindoor as 'magic' was a grave insult to the Armed Forces and the nation.

Speaker Om Birla informed the House that these references would be removed from the proceedings and urged the Congress MP to adopt appropriate parliamentary language.

While Rahul Gandhi acknowledged the Speaker's advice regarding the magician comment, he remained resolute in his critique of the Union government. He noted a 'central confusion' among BJP members, asserting that they believe they represent the people of India and the Armed Forces, which he contended is not the case. He urged them to 'stop hiding behind the Armed Forces as cowards.'

Earlier, the LoP reflected on his grandmother Indira Gandhi's lessons about confronting fears and mentioned that both she and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee refrained from pursuing delimitation during their terms, recognizing the potential dangers it could bring.
