Congress Defends Rahul Gandhi Against BJP's 'Leader of Propaganda' Attack
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 11 (NationPress) The Congress party vehemently condemned BJP MP Nishikant Dubey for his disparaging remark referring to Rahul Gandhi as the "Leader of Propaganda (LoP)." The Congress accused the ruling party of engaging in personal attacks as it struggles to address the questions posed by their leader.
In response to Dubey's comments, several Congress figures rallied to support Rahul Gandhi, asserting that the BJP’s focus on attacking him stems from its inability to adequately respond to the issues he raises in Parliament.
Congress MP Imran Masood remarked during an interview with IANS, noting the BJP's discomfort with the incisive queries from LoP Rahul Gandhi.
"The BJP is genuinely intimidated by Rahul Gandhi. They lack responses to his inquiries, and this fear drives them to make such remarks repeatedly," Masood stated.
Congress MP Sukhdeo Bhagat also took issue with Dubey's statements, suggesting that the BJP leader often prioritizes volume over factual accuracy.
"If there were a company dedicated to Nehru, Congress, and Rahul Gandhi, Nishikant Dubey would likely be its CEO. His comments are more about volume than substance," Bhagat told IANS.
Prominent Congress leader and MP Pramod Tiwari defended Rahul Gandhi, calling him a courageous Leader of Opposition who refuses to bend to government pressure.
"Rahul Gandhi exemplifies a fearless Leader of Opposition. He is among the few leaders post-Independence who has stood resolute against the government. I consider him one of the few leaders who confronts the relentless and brutal assaults from the BJP with integrity and strength," Tiwari asserted.
The controversy ignited when Dubey criticized Rahul Gandhi during a Lok Sabha speech opposing a resolution proposed by opposition parties to remove Speaker Om Birla. During his address, Dubey labeled Gandhi as the "Leader of Propaganda."
While speaking in the Lok Sabha, Dubey stated, "To me, the term 'Leader of Propaganda' (LoP) signifies that when an uninformed person falls prey to arrogance, they often turn into the Leader of Propaganda... They are so loud these days that they don't even permit the LoP to speak."
He further questioned the constitutional status of the Leader of Opposition during his remarks.
"I have contemplated—should the LoP not be allowed to speak? The Constitution does not even mention the LoP. Such discussions were never part of the Constituent Assembly debates," Dubey commented without explicitly naming Rahul Gandhi.
