New Delhi, July 5 (NationPress) Senior Congress leader Raj Babbar remarked on Saturday that the current organisational restructuring within the party should have been initiated much earlier.
Speaking to IANS during the ‘Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan’ (Organisational Building) from Lucknow, Raj Babbar praised the recent collaborative efforts of the party leadership, asserting that it will enhance credibility and promote accountability among Congress members.
“What is unfolding today in Congress should have commenced a long time ago. This initiative shows that the leadership is working together, particularly from Delhi, which will foster credibility and responsibility throughout the organisation,” he stated.
Criticising the government over electoral discrepancies, Babbar expressed concerns regarding irregularities in voter turnout during the recent elections.
“In prior elections, more votes were recorded than the total number of registered voters. The government has yet to provide a clear response to these serious issues. It is crucial to address these matters, and the Opposition is fulfilling its role. The government must ensure elections are conducted with full credibility,” he asserted.
Concerning the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, the Congress veteran underscored that it is the government’s obligation to guarantee free and fair polls. "Ensuring impartial elections is the responsibility of the ruling government," he emphasized.
In light of the recent language controversy in Maharashtra, Babbar commented, “Maharashtra is a vital part of India. The residents take great pride in their language and culture and have consistently defended their linguistic identity. It is the government's responsibility to handle such matters with maturity instead of inciting them.”
On the subject of communal tensions during the Kanwar Yatra, Babbar accused the government of intentionally allowing tensions to rise. “Every year, incidents occur during the Kanwar Yatra. Rather than preventing them proactively, the government waits until the Yatra commences and allows these incidents to transpire. This is done deliberately to provoke religious sentiments,” he alleged.
