New Delhi, Aug 7 (NationPress) During a passionate press conference at the Congress headquarters on Thursday, senior Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, made serious allegations against the Election Commission of India (ECI). He claimed that the commission is "colluding with the BJP to manipulate elections" and is actively involved in the "systematic dismantling of democracy."
Expressing grave concerns regarding the integrity of the voter lists and the execution of recent elections, LoP Gandhi questioned, "Are the right individuals truly allowed to vote? Is the voter list accurate? There is a rising skepticism among the populace, and justifiably so."
He pointed out apparent discrepancies between opinion polls, internal surveys, and real election outcomes, particularly in states like Haryana and Madhya Pradesh, indicating that results appeared to be "choreographed."
LoP Gandhi raised eyebrows over the significant increase in voter turnout reported after 5 P.M. in Maharashtra, despite minimal queues at polling stations.
"The election process now extends over months, which itself raises doubts. In Maharashtra, the number of voters increased dramatically in five months — more than in the preceding five years. How could that happen?" he questioned.
Referring to the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha and subsequent state elections, LoP Gandhi drew attention to what he described as an "absurd contrast."
"We achieved significant victories in the Lok Sabha in Maharashtra but faced a complete loss in the Assembly elections shortly afterward. In that period, one crore new voters appeared. We sought explanations from the EC, but they have remained silent," the Congress leader stated.
He further accused the EC of intentionally withholding electronic copies of the voter lists, destroying CCTV footage, and evading accountability.
"If you wish to analyze the data, digital access is essential. However, the EC has obstructed this access. They are no longer protecting democracy; they are facilitating its decline," he asserted.
Labeling Prime Minister Modi as a "PM with merely a 25-seat majority," LoP Gandhi argued, "He only needed to manipulate 25 seats to retain power. That’s why the EC is concealing the truth."
