New Delhi, Aug 2 (NationPress) During the annual Legal Conclave titled 'Constitutional Challenges – Perspectives & Pathways', Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, delivered a scathing critique of the Election Commission of India (ECI), accusing it of facilitating electoral fraud. He asserted that the historic party possesses “conclusive evidence” of this malpractice by the election authority, claiming that the organization has “vanished” and is no longer functioning autonomously.
Speaking to over 1,500 attendees, including prominent Congress figures and legal experts, LoP Gandhi emphasized that the Congress has gathered “conclusive evidence” of voter list manipulation and widespread electoral misconduct.
“My allies would often express their concerns, stating, 'yes, we can see that cheating has occurred. But we lack proof.' Now, I confidently declare that we possess that proof,” he stated.
“The evidence we have will reveal to the nation that the Election Commission, as we once knew it, is nonexistent. It has vanished,” he remarked.
LoP Gandhi detailed that the party undertook a six-month investigation into physical, booth-specific voter lists issued by the Election Commission. He alleged that these documents were purposely rendered unscannable and uncopyable.
“Why would the Election Commission safeguard the voter list in such a manner? The paper versions provided cannot be scanned or copied. It took us six months of relentless effort to uncover this evidence,” he explained.
The Congress leader noted that his team methodically compared six-and-a-half lakh voter photographs and names, discovering that one-and-a-half lakh entries were fraudulent.
“We meticulously examined six and a half lakh entries, photograph by photograph, name by name. I take immense pride in the work accomplished by the Congress Party,” he asserted.
LoP Gandhi reflected on his longstanding suspicions regarding electoral integrity since 2014, expressing particular astonishment at the sudden defeat of Congress and its allies in Maharashtra following a decisive Lok Sabha win.
“Three powerful parties suddenly vanished. That’s when I realized this could not be coincidental. Thus, we began investigating electoral malfeasance seriously,” he stated.
He added that despite initial signs of irregularities in states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, it wasn't until recent times that his party compiled concrete documentation. “This is treason, nothing less. We will pursue those responsible,” he warned, addressing those allegedly involved in undermining the democratic process.
He urged the legal community, indicating that the constitutional foundation they established is being dismantled.
“The legal minds, the legal fraternity, created this entire framework. It is being systematically unmade on various fronts, some overt, others obscure,” he emphasized.
These allegations arise amid intensified scrutiny regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Bihar and reported irregularities in voter lists during elections in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
