New Delhi, April 21 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his ‘defamatory’ comments regarding the Election Commission of India (ECI) and accused him of tarnishing the nation’s reputation abroad.

Rahul Gandhi’s pointed comments about the country’s electoral authority while in the United States attracted not only strong rebuttals but also widespread condemnation from various BJP spokespersons, who labeled him an ‘agent of George Soros’.

Sambit Patra, during a press briefing, asserted that the LoP was once again attempting to discredit the ECI and tarnish the nation’s image.

“A person, who and his mother are currently out on bail with a bond of Rs 50,000 in the National Herald case, is propagating misinformation from foreign soil. No one will take them seriously,” Patra remarked.

While addressing the Indian diaspora in Boston, US, Gandhi alleged that the ECI was compromised and used examples from the Maharashtra elections to support his assertions.

“In the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the number of votes cast exceeded the total population of Maharashtra, which is a fact. The ECI reported figures at around 5:30 p.m., and within two hours, approximately 65 lakh voters had already cast their votes, which is physically impossible,” Rahul stated.

“There is something fundamentally wrong with the system,” he claimed.

Countering these allegations, Patra questioned the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi’s stance when they allied with the JMM in Jharkhand for political gain. “Priyanka’s election from Wayanad occurred simultaneously,” he added.

“Gandhi should remember that he committed a serious offense in the National Herald case. You are misdirecting your anger against the ED at the Election Commission,” Patra remarked, referencing the charges against the Gandhi family in the AJL case.

“They question the nation’s institutions while on foreign soil. If you do not curb such tendencies, you will be labeled a traitor,” he warned.

Pradeep Bhandari also took to X to criticize the Congress leader, condemning him for his ‘anti-national’ stance.

“Rahul Gandhi is an anti-democratic and anti-India individual who seeks to confront the Indian state. Wherever he travels abroad, he disparages Indian democracy and the electoral process,” Bhandari posted on X.

“Rahul Gandhi, who has failed to earn the trust of Indian voters, begins to question the Indian democratic process on foreign soil. Why does Rahul consistently defame India abroad? He is an agent of George Soros, battling against the Indian state - that is Rahul Gandhi’s true intent today!” he added.
