Indore, June 26 (NationPress) Following a thorough investigation spanning nine days into the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Meghalaya Police has departed from Indore, according to police sources who spoke anonymously to IANS on Thursday.
The SIT returned to Meghalaya with key evidence, including a locally made firearm found in a drain in Indore on Wednesday. Over the past week, three individuals were apprehended in various locations across Madhya Pradesh: Silome James (a property broker), Balvir Ahirwar (a security guard), and Lokendra Tomar (a flat owner).
These suspects are now under transit remand and will be taken to Shillong for questioning alongside the main accused: Sonam Raghuvanshi, her alleged partner Raj Kushwaha, and his three associates, who were arrested between June 8 and 10.
According to an officer from Indore Police, a weapon is believed to have gone missing alongside other items from a flat in the city, where Sonam, Raja Raghuvanshi's spouse, had stayed after escaping from Meghalaya post-murder.
Meanwhile, Raja Raghuvanshi’s sibling, Vipin Raghuvanshi, expressed his awareness through media reports regarding the recovery of a pistol, laptop, and mobile phone during the investigation.
"I learned through the media that a pistol was found, either in a bag or near the drain, along with a laptop or a mobile. We are optimistic that these findings will provide further clarity in the case," Vipin stated in an interview with IANS.
Regarding Sonam's brother Govind, who has been vocal in the media supporting Raja's family and demanding justice, Vipin questioned, "If he genuinely believes his sister is guilty and stands with us, why isn't he openly calling for severe punishment for her?"
Raja Raghuvanshi, who wed Sonam on May 11, was reported missing on May 23 during their honeymoon in Meghalaya.
His dismembered remains were discovered in a deep gorge in the Sohra region of Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district on June 2.
The Meghalaya Police suspect that the recovery of the firearm and ammunition has validated their assumptions regarding the meticulous planning that went into this horrifying murder.
Throughout the nine-day investigation period (June 17 to 25) in Indore, the Meghalaya Police conducted searches at multiple locations.
The SIT also met with the families of Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi to discuss Sonam's conduct prior to and following her marriage to Raja Raghuvanshi.
