Shillong, June 25 (NationPress) The Meghalaya Police has obtained significant insights into the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi following the capture of an Indore-based businessman by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), officials disclosed on Wednesday.
On Monday, the Meghalaya Police SIT apprehended Lokendra Singh Tomar, identified as the owner of the flat where Raja's spouse, Sonam Raghuvanshi, resided from May 25 to June 7 after returning to Indore.
Authorities have charged Tomar with complicity in the destruction and concealment of crucial evidence linked to the case.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police V. Syiem previously confirmed Tomar's status as a wanted individual in this investigation.
In response, Tomar refuted any involvement, asserting to reporters, “I am aware of the allegations. I had rented out my flat in Indore. I do not know anyone related to this case. The box being mentioned was not in my possession. Nothing has been recovered from me. I only used to talk to James.”
A senior SIT official stated, “The prime suspect, Sonam, allegedly concealed a box containing essential evidence at Tomar’s Indore flat post-murder. The SIT has previously detained property dealer Silome James from Dewas and security guard Balla Ahirwar from Ashok Nagar for their suspected roles in concealing the box. Both men are believed to have assisted Sonam during her flight from justice.”
On Sunday, the Meghalaya Police arrested property dealer James, a tenant in Indore’s Heera Bagh Colony, where Sonam stayed after returning from Meghalaya following the murder, along with security guard Ahirwar.
They are accused of aiding Sonam Raghuvanshi and her alleged accomplice, Raj Kushwaha, in disposing of incriminating evidence.
James was captured at the Bhonrasa toll plaza in Dewas district around 7:30 P.M. on June 21 while attempting to flee to Bhopal. Subsequently, he was transported to Indore and directed to the location where he allegedly incinerated a box belonging to Sonam, containing various items such as jewelry, a laptop, and a firearm purportedly owned by Kushwaha.
Security guard Balla Ahirwar, who had fled to his home village, was also arrested in the Ashok Nagar district of Madhya Pradesh.
The three alleged contract killers remain incarcerated in Meghalaya.
Sonam and Raja wed on May 11. They embarked on their honeymoon to Meghalaya on May 20 and were reported missing on May 23 from Sohra town in East Khasi Hills district.
Raja’s decomposed remains were discovered in a deep gorge on June 2, while Sonam, initially thought to be missing, was apprehended in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh on June 9.
