Shillong, June 16 (NationPress) The Meghalaya Police conducted a mental examination of Sonam Raghuvanshi, the primary suspect in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, officials confirmed on Monday.
A police spokesperson indicated that Sonam was brought to the Meghalaya Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (MIMHANS) for a comprehensive "mental assessment" as part of a standard psychiatric evaluation.
Following the recommendation of the Medical Officer at Ganesh Das Hospital in Shillong, Sonam underwent the mental assessment at MIMHANS, which revealed that her mental health is stable and sound, the official stated.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Meghalaya Police, which is investigating the murder case, is expected to take Sonam and other co-accused to the Wei Sawdong parking lot on Tuesday for a reconstruction of the crime scene.
Combined efforts from the SIT, along with the Madhya Pradesh Police and Uttar Pradesh Police, led to the arrest of Sonam (24) and four others: Raj Singh Kushwaha (21), Sonam's alleged partner, Anand Singh Kurmi (23), Akash Rajput (19), and Vishal Singh Chauhan (22).
Kushwaha is accused of orchestrating Raja's murder even before his marriage to Sonam on May 11.
The remains of Raja Raghuvanshi (28), a businessman from Indore, were discovered in a gorge below the Wei Sawdong parking lot in the Sohra-Cherrapunji region of Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district on June 2, eight days after the couple was reported missing during their honeymoon.
Subsequent to the discovery of Raja's body, the Meghalaya Police established the SIT and revised their investigation strategy, leading to the apprehension of all five suspects in the murder case.
On June 11, all five accused, including Sonam, were presented to the District and Session Court in Shillong.
The court ordered that all five suspects be held in police custody for eight days.
The three SIT teams from the Meghalaya Police conducted separate interrogations of the five suspects.
