Jaipur, July 26 (NationPress) In light of the unfortunate event at a government school in Piplodi village, located in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has ordered an urgent focus on the repair of damaged yet salvable government infrastructures, including schools, Anganwadi centers, and other facilities.
To facilitate this initiative, the Chief Minister has enhanced the funding limit under the Dang, Magra, and Mewat Regional Development Schemes from 15 percent to 20 percent, specifically for repair-related projects.
This resolution is designed to expedite maintenance operations in vulnerable areas.
In a noteworthy development, MLAs will now have the authority to propose up to 20 percent of their annual budget under the Local Area Development Scheme for the refurbishment of government schools, Anganwadi centers, and facilities built under any program—previously, this flexibility was confined to structures under the MLA-led scheme.
CM Sharma has urged all MLAs to give precedence to the repair and upkeep of aging and compromised educational infrastructure.
“Enhancing the infrastructure of government institutions is essential for guaranteeing student safety and averting future tragedies,” he remarked.
The state government has allocated Rs 375 crore in the current budget for the construction and restoration of dilapidated schools. Additionally, Rs 3 crore per assembly constituency has been specifically set aside for repair and renovation projects.
During a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister's residence on Friday, CM Sharma instructed all District Collectors and relevant departments to conduct immediate inspections of all government buildings, including schools and hospitals.
An expert committee has also been established to evaluate the structural condition of these buildings and deliver a detailed report within five days. These proactive strategies aim to ensure the safety and structural soundness of educational and public institutions throughout Rajasthan, officials stated.
The incident transpired on Friday morning in Piplodi village of the Manoharthana area in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district, where the roof of a government school collapsed, trapping several students beneath the rubble.
The roof failure occurred at the Government Higher Primary School, which was operating from an aged and crumbling structure.
Eyewitnesses and local residents reported that over 50 students were in the classrooms when the roof unexpectedly gave way due to ongoing heavy rains in recent days. The crash was followed by cries and chaos as dust and debris filled the space.
