Jaipur, June 17 (NationPress) In a groundbreaking effort to enhance the state's mining industry, Rajasthan will utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for mineral exploration for the very first time. Initial preparations are already underway, with officials informing IANS that relevant reports are expected to be ready in approximately 45 days.

This innovative use of AI-ML marks a new chapter for Rajasthan, as confirmed by officials to IANS on Tuesday.

The Principal Secretary for Mines and Geology, T. Ravikant, revealed plans for a pilot project to be initiated in Bhilwara, Bharatpur, and selected regions of Chittorgarh aimed at identifying potential zones rich in critical and strategic minerals using AI technologies.

The Rajasthan State Mineral Exploration Trust (RSMET) will oversee the implementation of this project in partnership with a private exploration agency authorized by the Central Government.

Rajasthan is already recognized as a leader in major mineral auctions and has seen a notable increase in mining revenues.

Out of 82 mineral types present in the state, 57 are currently under active mining.

With this initiative, the government plans to expedite the discovery of untapped and valuable mineral reserves lying beneath the state's surface.

Ravikant emphasized that AI will facilitate the identification of high-potential mineral zones much more effectively than conventional methods, which tend to be labor-intensive and time-consuming.

“The AI-driven approach will not only save time, cost, and manpower but will also enhance the scientific accuracy of mineral detection,” he stated.

The AI exploration will leverage data from multiple sources, including satellite imagery, ground penetration radar, and historical geological surveys provided by both central and state agencies.

The Hyderabad-based NPEA Critical Mineral Tracker, a private firm operating under the Central Government, will spearhead the pilot project.

This firm is already engaged in projects in Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh and will now extend its expertise to Rajasthan.

Upon successfully identifying promising regions through AI analysis, drilling will commence, followed by chemical analysis of core samples.

Findings will subsequently lead to the preparation of mineral blocks for auction.

Rajasthan is known for its extensive limestone reserves and holds significant potential for critical and strategic minerals like copper, base metals, and iron ore.

Both the Union and state governments are focusing on the identification and extraction of these vital resources, which are crucial for national development and technological progress.

Deepak Tanwar, Director of Mines, remarked, “This is the inaugural use of AI for mineral exploration in Rajasthan, representing a transformative step that will introduce speed, precision, and innovation to the sector.”

Point of View

It's clear that Rajasthan's initiative to incorporate AI in mineral exploration reflects a broader trend towards modernization in resource management. This strategic move not only enhances exploration efficiency but also aligns with national interests in sustainable development and technological innovation. As states like Rajasthan lead the way, they set an example for others to follow, reinforcing our commitment to harnessing technology for resource optimization.
