Rajasthan Intellectuals Request UN Action on Human Rights Abuses in Bangladesh

Jaipur, Dec 10 (NationPress) Alarmed by the ongoing atrocities against Hindus and other religious minorities in Bangladesh, intellectuals from Rajasthan have delivered a memorandum to Governor Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, demanding that the United Nations step in.
The memorandum calls for an end to the violence, the safeguarding of human rights, and the establishment of a peacekeeping force.
It emphasizes the alarming rise in attacks on Hindus, highlighting assaults on ISKCON temples and the desecration of religious idols following the downfall of the Sheikh Hasina government in Bangladesh.
The document condemns the Bangladeshi government's inaction, asserting that it not only remains silent but also shelters religious fundamentalists who are coercing Hindus into conversion.
The memorandum calls for a UN investigation, humanitarian assistance for victims, and lasting constitutional protections for religious minorities.
The delegation, which featured retired High Court judge NK Jain, military personnel, and educators, stressed the pressing need for the United Nations Human Rights Council to take action and for a peacekeeping unit to be deployed.
It also demanded compensation and rehabilitation for the affected communities.
The memorandum indicated that after the Sheikh Hasina government was overthrown and Mohammad Yunus assumed power in Bangladesh, atrocities against religious minorities such as Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, and Christians have surged.
Hindu homes and religious sites are under attack from fundamentalist groups.
Incidents targeting ISKCON temples and instances of idol disrespect are clear examples of this troubling situation, the memorandum noted.
Human rights are blatantly violated in Bangladesh due to the violence inflicted on Hindus by religious extremists, while the government there not only stands by idly but also supports these fundamentalists.
These extremists are pressuring Hindus to abandon their faith.
Individuals linked to various religious groups, including Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, have faced imprisonment on fabricated charges.
The memorandum demands an end to human rights abuses in Bangladesh, the dispatch of a UN delegation to investigate the situation, and support and reparations for the Hindu community.
An appeal was made for the United Nations to send a peacekeeping force to Bangladesh.
Retired High Court judge NK Jain, present in the delegation, stated that the Rajasthan Citizens' Group has met with the Governor to shed light on the violence against Hindus and other related incidents in Bangladesh.
A memorandum was submitted to Governor Bagde in the name of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
"We demand that the inhumane atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh cease immediately. Human rights must be upheld. The United Nations Human Rights Council should dispatch a delegation to Bangladesh to guarantee the protection of human rights. The community subjected to systematic violence should receive compensation and rehabilitation. A United Nations peacekeeping force should be deployed to Bangladesh, and constitutional measures should be established under UN oversight for the safety and religious freedom of Hindus."
The delegation included retired Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court NK Jain, Karauli Additional District and Sessions Judge Prashant Agarwal, retired military officer Colonel Devanand Lomrod, Lieutenant Colonel Mahavir Saini, retired Naval Officer Commander Priyanka Chaudhary, former Vice-Chancellor Mohanlal Chipa, former Chairman of the Minority Commission Jasbir Singh, retired police officer Kanhaiyalal Bairwal, orthopedist Ramesh Agarwal, and retired bank officer Shyam Manohar.
This memorandum was endorsed by 50 intellectuals from various sectors, including judges, administrative officers, military personnel, and educators.
