Key Takeaways
Mandsaur, Jan 13 (NationPress) A man from Rajasthan was apprehended for allegedly hiding his religious identity during a stay with a woman at a hotel in Madhya Pradesh's Mandsaur district, according to police reports on Tuesday.
Upon checking into the hotel on Monday, the individual identified himself as Chetan Prakash and presented an ID (Aadhaar card) under that name to the reception staff. A woman accompanied him during this process, as per the police.
However, when he completed an online transaction of Rs 600, the hotel receptionist discovered the payment was made from a UPI linked to the name Ashraf Khan, prompting the hotel staff to notify the authorities.
The police subsequently brought the couple to the Kotwali police station for interrogation, during which the man provided another Aadhaar card indicating his real name as Ashraf Khan, a resident of Jaisalmer district in Rajasthan. Both Aadhaar cards displayed identical photographs but different names and addresses.
After conducting verification, the police filed a case under pertinent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with additional relevant sections, as stated by Mandsaur's Kotwali police station chief, Pushpendra Singh Rathore.
Details from the woman's ID revealed she was from Nagaur district in Rajasthan. They checked into the hotel early in the day before heading for an examination, according to police.
Initial investigations indicated that Ashraf and the woman traveled to Mandsaur for a laboratory technician examination at a government college in the district.
During questioning, the woman disclosed that she is employed as a nursing staff member at a private hospital in Jaisalmer. Families in Rajasthan have been notified, and further inquiries are in progress.
The police officer also mentioned that the authenticity of both Aadhaar cards retrieved from Ashraf Khan is currently under verification, with further actions pending accordingly.
