Kolkata, July 24 (NationPress) The Kolkata Police apprehended a suspect on Thursday in connection with the alleged rape of a woman at a hotel located in the famous Park Street district of Kolkata.
The arrested individual, identified as Md Monibur Rahman (34), had falsely claimed to be a member of the Indian Army to gain the victim's trust and offered to leverage his supposed connections to secure bail for her husband, who was incarcerated on separate charges.
According to police reports, the incident occurred earlier this year, and the suspect reportedly threatened the victim with the release of her nude photographs, which he claimed he would make public.
A formal complaint has been filed under sections 64(1) (rape) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Park Street Police Station.
"The FIR states that the accused cohabited with the complainant under the threat of disseminating her naked photographs, which created a climate of fear. The events transpired between January and February," explained a police spokesperson.
During their investigation, law enforcement officials arrested the suspect in a guest house located in the Wattgunge area of South Kolkata in the early hours of Thursday.
"We have initiated an extensive investigation and are exploring all potential avenues," stated a senior police officer.
Reports indicate that the woman disclosed the entire episode to her husband following his release from jail.
It was revealed that the accused had engaged in physical relationships with her multiple times while using the threat of releasing her intimate photos as leverage.
On her husband's urging, the woman proceeded to file a police report against the accused at the Park Street police station.
